Argyle NewsBaseball: Eagles eliminated in Game 2 loss to Canyon01:31 AM CDT on Sunday, May 11, 2008SNYDER — Argyle’s first-ever playoff appearance came to an end with a 6-3 loss to Canyon on Saturday that completed a sweep in a Class 3A Region I area round playoff series. The Eagles led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-1 after the second, but Canyon eventually gained the advantage and broke the game open with a wind-blown three-run home run in the top of the fourth. Canyon won the first game on Friday, 11-1, in five innings. “We played much better [Saturday],” said Argyle head coach Ricky Griffin. “They’re a good team. Without a doubt, they hit the ball better than any team we’ve seen all year. One through nine, you can’t take a breath.” Storm Griffin pitched a complete game for the Eagles, who committed three errors in the field. Jake Sizelove was the top hitter for Argyle with a double and an RBI. Despite the loss, Ricky Griffin said Argyle’s two-round postseason run, which included a bi-district win over Breckenridge last week, will provide a good foundation for the young program to grow in the future. “This is exactly what we needed. We needed to win a playoff game, which we did, and we needed to face a team like [Canyon],” he said. “There was a big difference in experience in this series. That’s where we’d like to be.”
