Four football games Aug. 30 at Texas Stadium that match area high schools against out-of-state teams have become part of the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series.

Cedar Hill, Arlington Bowie, Mansfield Timberview and Justin Northwest will play in the event, named for the ESPN college football commentator.

The event, known as the Kirk Herbstreit Challenge when it was contested in Ohio the first three years, has been expanded to 15 games in two days in Texas and Ohio.

Klein Forest is the only other Texas team participating and will play in Canton, Ohio.

Three other area teams meet out-of-state opponents Sept. 1 at Texas Stadium in the National Football Foundation event. It is not part of the Herbstreit series.

When the seven games set for Texas Stadium were confirmed in March, all were listed as part of the Texas Gridiron Classic.
