The New York Mets grabbed North Mesquite pitcher Damien Magnifico in the fifth round of the First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday. College World Series-bound Texas also saw Brandon Belt (San Francisco) and Austin Wood (Detroit) drafted in the fifth round.
David Carpenter, a pitcher from South Grand Prairie, was taken 291st overall by the Los Angeles Angels. Nate Karns, an Arlington Martin graduate who is now a junior at Texas Tech, was picked up by Washington with the 352nd overall pick.
Coppell's Jonathan Walsh (San Francisco) and Chad Kettler (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Keller Fossil Ridge's Brian Vigo-Suarez (Milwaukee) were also taken on the second day.
The final 20 rounds are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
