Duncanville has hired Mansfield Timberview's Eric McDade as its new boys basketball coach, outgoing Duncanville ISD athletic director Kevin Ozee said Tuesday.
McDade, 35, is replacing the legendary Phil McNeely, who retired two months ago after 27 seasons at Duncanville that produced 702 career victories and three state championships.
McDade led Timberview to the Class 4A state tournament in March. He's been Timberview's coach since the school opened in 2004. Before that, he was Crowley's coach from 1999 to 2004.
Ozee said Duncanville brought in eight candidates for interviews.
"Eric shined in the interview process," Ozee said. "I knew he followed a great coach at Crowley, and we were kind of looking for that mix in replacing a legend and having to follow in his footsteps. And Eric has done that already and had success.
"His energy and excitement he's going to bring, I'm excited for the basketball program at Duncanville."
