MIDLAND – Jessiray Navarrette hit a two-run home run, and Cory Falvey broke the game open with a three-run homer Saturday as El Paso Socorro defeated Flower Mound Marcus, 11-5, completing a two-game sweep in the Class 5A Region I finals.
Tavi Amparan pitched a complete game for Socorro (33-4), which is headed to its first UIL state tournament in Round Rock. He gave up six hits and struck out nine.
Marcus (26-14), which led 3-1 early, fell behind 5-3 on Navarrette'shomer to center field in the third inning. Falvey's shot in the seventh increased Socorro's lead to 11-4.
Marcus got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, on a two-out, RBI double by Victor Guerra, but Amparan then ended the game on a strikeout.
Socorro, which opened the series with a 7-6 win on Friday, collected 12 hits. Michael Gill went five innings and took the loss for Marcus.
