RED OAK – Ashley McCarroll hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to lead Forney to an 8-4 win over Mesquite Poteet on Friday.
Forney's victory evened the best-of-3 Class 4A Region II final series at one win apiece. Game 3 will be at 7 p.m. today at Red Oak.
McCarroll's homer halted Poteet's momentum. In the previous inning, Poteet (34-9-1) turned a triple play with the bases loaded, leaving Forney (36-7) with a 5-4 lead.
Forney led, 4-0, after three innings. Freshman Taylor Schoblocher hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Poteet pitcher Bradie Baker had allowed one home run in her previous 38 outings.
Baker was the winning pitcher Wednesday as Poteet rallied from an early deficit and ended Forney's 30-game winning streak. Poteet was looking for a repeat after scoring three runs in the fourth. MacKenzie Middlebrook drove in two with a bases-loaded double.
