Mansfield girls surprise Arlington Bowie: The Mansfield girls entered Friday with a 6-17 record, but they made 10 of their 14 free throws in overtime to beat Arlington Bowie, 60-49. Bowie (21-5, 2-2 District 4-5A) was ranked 11th in the state in Class 5A.
Mansfield (3-2 in 4-5A) had five players score in double figures, led by Maya Adetula with 13 points and Clarke Davis with 12. Mansfield scored was held to 13 points in the second half but outscored Bowie, 17-6, in overtime.
Ify Mora led Bowie with 14 points, and Lauren McKinney added 12.
Friday's boys standouts
Chris Tecco, Frisco Centennial: Scored 11 points and made a game-winning jumper in the lane with eight seconds left to give Frisco Centennial a 57-55 win over McKinney.
Erik Hunter, Flower Mound: Scored 24 points and was 10-of-10 from the field in a 56-43 victory over Mesquite Horn. He scored 16 points in the second half, including nine in the fourth quarter.
James Erger, Princeton: Scored 31 points in a 68-66 victory over McKinney Boyd.
Tanner Milson, Cedar Hill: Scored 25 points as Cedar Hill, the area's second- ranked 5A team, beat No. 7 Irving, 76-67.
Cameron Miles, Skyline: The San Diego signee scored 28 points in a 75-60 win over Richardson Berkner.
Friday's girls standouts
Breanna Dorsey, Kennedale: Had 27 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in an 85-30 win over Ferris.
Tiffany Moore, Frisco: Scored a game-high 17 points in a 56-40 win over Frisco Wakeland that gave Frisco (20-3, 5-0) sole possession of first place in District 9-4A. It was the first district loss for Wakeland.
Eboney Roy, Mesquite: Scored a game-high 13 points and made two free throws with 1.7 seconds left to give Mesquite a 39-37 win over Tyler John Tyler.
Shanae Lowrance, Rockwall-Heath: Scored 30 points in an 83-22 win over Carrollton R.L. Turner.
Peyton Adamson, Rockwall: Scored 36 points in a 65-49 win over Highland Park as Rockwall remained undefeated in District 10-4A play.
Spotlight
Defense gets it done: Several state-ranked girls teams turned in big defensive performances Friday.
Roosevelt, ranked 12th in the state in 3A, shut out Fort Worth Carter-Riverside in the second half of a 55-1 victory.
Mansfield Summit, No. 7 in the state in 5A, allowed five points in the second half of a 64-16 win over Arlington Lamar in a battle of the top two teams in District 4-5A.
And Lincoln, No. 6 in the state in 4A, allowed six points in the first half of a 67-32 victory over Conrad.
Another big win: The Bishop Lynch girls, ranked second in the state among large private schools, have won three in a row – all over state-ranked opponents. After beating No. 11 Ursuline and No. 8 Fort Worth Nolan, Bishop Lynch defeated No. 17 John Paul II, 58-43, on Friday.
Huge comeback: The West Mesquite boys defeated Mesquite Poteet, 51-48, in overtime after trailing, 38-20, entering the fourth quarter.

49: Consecutive wins for the Ponder boys (23-0, 3-0 10-2A), who defeated Pilot Point, 75-40.
30.9: Average margin of victory for the Irving MacArthur girls (26-1, 4-0 7-5A) during their 14-game winning streak. MacArthur beat Grand Prairie, 82-27.
17: Points scored in the first four minutes of the third quarter by the Plano West boys, ranked fourth in the area, in an 84-62 victory over No. 8 Jesuit.
Boys college watch
Roger Franklin, Duncanville: The Oklahoma State signee scored a game-high 24 points as Duncanville, the state's fifth-ranked 5A team, beat Irving Nimitz, 109-40. Six players scored in double figures for Duncanville.
Girls college watch
Alisha Allen, Garland Naaman Forest: The Nicholls State signee scored a game-high 20 points to lead Garland Naaman Forest (18-5), the state's 16th-ranked 5A team, to a 62-47 nondistrict win over Plano West (16-8).
