After an 0-5 start that included a number of close losses, North Garland coach David Farris said his priority is keeping his team motivated.
"Really, what it boils down to is that they have to maintain a belief in themselves," Farris said. "As long as they believe in themselves, the potential to win and succeed is there. We'll be fine, because we have a high character group of kids that still believe that they can win."
Mistakes and bad luck have hurt North Garland, Farris said.
Two opponents have rallied in the fourth quarter. Carrollton Creekview scored 14 consecutive points in a 36-35 victory, and Garland Lakeview scored on a trick play to win, 32-27.
A win today over District 10-5A front-runner South Garland would bolster his players' confidence, Farris said.
"In their minds, it would just reaffirm what they already believe," Farris said. "I'm sure they might be hearing from classmates about everybody ragging on them because they're 0-5, but I really don't think they believe they're a 0-5 team."
