Garland had reached the state tournament each of the last four seasons, but it won't have a chance to extend that streak.
Garland lost Game 1 of its best-of-3 5A second-round playoff series to Mesquite Horn, 6-0, on Friday. The teams were scheduled to play Game 2, and if necessary, Game 3 on Saturday. But the rain prevented them from playing Saturday, so Mesquite Horn will advance to the regional quarterfinals while Garland's season came to an end.
Saturday was the UIL deadline to finish this round of the playoffs, but if a best-of-3 series was tied at one win apiece and weather prevented it from being completed Saturday, the teams could finish Monday if they got permission from the UIL. But a series such as Garland vs. Horn, where a team was ahead one game to none, had to finish Saturday or the series was over.
