Mesquite Poteet coach Charlie Hesse said his squad used its bye week to improve, but would not say that the rushing defense has been a problem.
His comments come two weeks after Poteet (1-2) allowed 324 rushing yards to Mansfield Timberview in a 34-21 loss. Poteet is allowing 210 yards rushing per game and 6 yards per carry.
"Timberview had some D-1 players that are talented players," Hesse said in an e-mail. "We did not successfully block or tackle. Sometimes you get beat by a better team."
Despite the numbers, Hesse said he is confident his team will contend in District 10-4A play, which begins Friday against Rockwall-Heath (3-0).
"I feel really good about going into district with a chance to compete for the district title and a playoff spot," Hesse said.
