FRISCO – Danielle Blocker capped a four-run 13th inning with a two-run home run to right field for Flower Mound Marcus in its 5-1 victory over Plano East on Wednesday in Game 1 of a best-of-3 Class 5A Region I final series.
Game 2 is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Frisco.
Blocker's big shot came after Devon Wallace doubled in KelVon Greer from first base with the go-ahead run. Sarah Draheim singled in Wallace to make the score 3-1.
Wallace went 3-for-6, and Greer scored twice. Greer gave Marcus (29-6-2) a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth when she scored on a double to left-center by Heather Foust.
Plano East (23-15-1) tied the score in the bottom of the sixth when Holly Kern raced in from third on a wild pitch. Alyssa Jones, who went to third on the wild pitch, tried to come around and score on the same play but was thrown out.
Plano East had its leadoff hitter reach in the 10th and 11th inning but couldn't score. Plano East left three runners stranded in scoring position over those two innings.
Marcus third baseman Hailey Winter snagged a hard-hit line drive by Taylor Jones that would have produced the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
