FRISCO – Plano East had no problem with timely hits Friday night as it evened its best-of-3 Class 5A Region I final series with an 8-4 victory over Flower Mound Marcus.
The deciding third game is set for 2 p.m. today in Frisco. The winner heads to next week's state tournament.
Plano East (24-15-1) had seven players with two hits apiece as part of a 15-hit effort.
In Game 1 on Wednesday, Plano East belted eight hits but managed just one run in a 5-1 loss in 13 innings. On Friday, Plano East smashed six hits in a five-run first inning.
Taylor Jones and McKenna Brown had run-scoring singles. Meg Newman scored two on a single, and Rachel Scott had an RBI double. Plano East took a 6-1 lead in the second with a solo homer to left field by Jones.
Jones allowed eight hits and struck out two in the complete-game win. Scott had two doubles.
Devon Wallace went 2-for-3 with a triple and two-run homer to lead Marcus (29-7-2).
Plano East chased Marcus starter Heather Foust in the fifth after Scott led off the inning with her second double. She scored on Holly Kern's single.
