Smithson Valley (28-5): Houston signee Bailey Watts (25-2) has pitched four consecutive shutouts to lead Smithson Valley to its sixth state tournament appearance – the most by any team at state this year. Watts outpitched Texas signee Blaire Luna in Smithson Valley's sweep of nationally ranked Austin Bowie, the state's top-ranked 5A team, in the regional final. Smithson Valley has won 19 games in a row and has outscored its playoff opponents, 18-1.
Plano East (23-15-1): Plano East scored 13 runs and had 22 hits in winning the last two games of its regional final series against Flower Mound Marcus. Plano East is at state for the second time. It was the state runner-up in 1995. Plano East lost to Smithson Valley, 5-2, in February.
