LUBBOCK – Texas A&M sophomore Gerald Phiri took first place in three races Sunday, the second year in a row he's done that at the Big 12 track and field meet.
Phiri won the 100 and 200 and was a member of the winning 4x100 team. It was the first time a sprinter has finished first in three events two straight years.
Two Plano graduates won first-place medals. Texas A&M junior Porscha Lewis defended her 200 meters title, winning in 22.92 seconds. Baylor's Erin Bedell won the women's 1,500 in 4 minutes, 22.03 seconds.
Nebraska won the men's championship with 148 points to runner-up Texas A&M's 126. Texas A&M won the women's championship with 126.5 points to runner-up Texas Tech's 111.
