Offense is not the issue at Plano, where quarterback Carson Meger, running back Rex Burkhead and wide receiver Kris Lott are returning along with three starting linemen. It's the defense that has holes to fill.
The only returning starters are safeties LaRon Kelly and Justin Collins. Kelly has been clocked at 4.34 in the 40 and could see action on offense and returning kicks.
First-year coach Jaydon McCullough said there are a number of defensive players returning who played on varsity last season, such as Phillip Hale, who was a nickel defensive back and may take over at weakside linebacker.
Linemen Luke Terrell and Preston Leahy logged time on varsity last season, as did linebacker Reid Lyness and corners Andrew Caufman and Ryan McDuff.
There's another offensive star in the making, too. McCullough said that 6-3 wideout Holt Hoetger, who will be a junior, has been timed at 4.39 in the 40.
