Plano West NewsBaseball: Plano West 3, Rockwall 211:53 PM CDT on Thursday, May 15, 2008McKINNEY – Plano West's Harrison Holmes' game-winning hit may have been one of the hardest coach Kendall Clark has seen in a while. It also allowed the team to exhale as it faced its potential first loss. Holmes tattooed a two-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give Plano West a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Rockwall at McKinney Boyd. Plano West improved to 33-0 and claimed Game 1 of the teams' 5A Region II best-of-3 quarterfinal series. Rockwall (21-12) held a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh, but Holmes capitalized on a 2-0 pitch to deliver the win. "Man, did he hit that ball," Plano West coach Kendall Clark said. "I think Tiger Woods would have loved to hit a 1-iron the way Harrison hit that ball. It may have gone to Oklahoma if there wasn't a wall there, that's how hard it was." Drew Johnson pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn the win on the mound, improving to 11-0. Johnson and starting pitcher Ben Flora combined to throw a five-hitter. |
