GRAND PRAIRIE – Kayla Kirk of Coppell had eight kills to help the West to a 25-23, 30-29, 25-22 win over the East in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A-5A All-Star Volleyball Game on Wednesday at Amos Turner Gymnasium.
Kirk, a 6-0 Duke signee, added four digs and two aces.
Coppell teammate Jordan Raines, a Denver signee, had six kills and five digs for the West.
Plano West's Shannon Hawari, McKinney Boyd's Kaylyn Frink and Allen's Sydney Ellis were members of the East.
Earlier, the West won the all-star game for Class A-2A-3A in four games, 25-11, 25-21, 18-25, 30-28.
On Tuesday, West pitcher Whitney Canion of Aledo struck out eight and was named MVP of the TGCA 4A-5A softball game, won by the West, 2-1, in 10 innings at Arlington's Workman Softball Complex.
The 4A-5A basketball game is at 7:30 p.m. today at Grand Prairie. Texas A&M signee Sydney Carter of DeSoto is among eight area players expected to appear in that game.
