NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Stephen Collins rushed for 208 yards and four touchdowns to help Richland (3-2, 1-1) overcome Haltom (1-4, 0-2) for a District 5-5A win at Birdville Fine Arts-Athletic Complex.
Haltom's Lance Dunbar, who finished with 237 yards, took a handoff around the right side of the line and sprinted untouched for an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Richland answered with scores on its next three possessions. Collins had a 16-yard touchdown run and added a 1-yard scoring run late in the first quarter. His 1-yard run early in the second quarter put Richland up 20-6.
Matt Gomez's 33-yard touchdown pass to Maurice Hawkins in the front corner of the end zone closed the gap for Haltom, and Shane Smith's 1-yard scoring run capped a 12-play drive for Haltom to tie the game just before halftime.
Collins scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to put Richland back in front late in the third quarter, and Phillip Gonzales' 30-yard touchdown pass to Phillip Anderson with 11:50 left put the game away.
