When you decided to commit to Arkansas, did you feel like a traitor to your home state?
Just a little. I kind of have two different backgrounds, a Texas side and an Arkansas side. I've got a lot of Arkansas relatives on my mom's side. And I've got some on my dad's side, too.
But what about the fans who wear those Hog hats?
I'm not sure if I could see myself wearing one, but they do show a lot of enthusiasm, that's for sure. I like 'em, though.
You transferred to Heath from South Garland when your dad, Mickey, took the coaching job there. What's the transition been like?
It's been awesome. I came right in, got to know people. A few people had already heard of me, and I knew a few people there already. It was like going to another family.
What's the best thing about playing for your dad?
You have that relationship. You've been around each other for so long, he knows me a lot better than he knows anybody else. He knows my abilities and stuff and how I think. He's able to use me in the best way that I can [be used].
You guys spend a lot of time together that most kids don't get with their dads.
That's the biggest part about it. I really enjoy it.
Is this the year Heath makes the playoffs?
Yes it is. I have a lot of confidence in our team and our abilities, the closeness we have. This is definitely a playoff team. I believe we're going to go far.
And if you don't? Blame the coach, right?
Yes sir, that always works.
