Despite giving up more than 300 yards per game, Sachse is 2-1 and allowing only 18 points per game, a credit to big plays on defense.
For example, Sachse allowed 242 passing yards in last week's game against Spruce, but won, 28-6, thanks in large part to a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown.
The big plays "just come in bunches," said junior linebacker Everett Daniels, who returned an interception for a touchdown in the season opener against McKinney.
Coach Red Behrens, who will take on his old school when Sachse plays Garland Naaman Forest on Friday, would prefer if the defense did not give up so many yards before forcing turnovers.
"We're more of an attacking defense now," Behrens said. "We've got to learn not to give up the big play."
