Softball NewsSportsDay's softball player of the week: Kathy Shelton10:16 AM CDT on Monday, April 7, 2008School: McKinney North Kathy Shelton What she did: Shelton, a leadoff hitter, reached base on seven out of her eight-at bats last week, including going 4-for-4 in Friday's win over Frisco Centennial. Shelton also stole five bases and scored five runs to keep McKinney North (17-5-2, 10-0) undefeated in District 9-4A. A victory at McKinney Boyd on Tuesday would clinch a district title. The stats: Shelton is hitting .462 (30-65) with 12 walks, 22 stolen bases, one triple and 27 runs scored. Who is she? Shelton is a junior who has been with McKinney North's varsity team since she was a freshman. Shelton was the defensive player of the year for District 9-4A last season. She said it: "That was probably one of the hardest weeks in our district. We had to make sure we had the right mindset, and go there playing our 'A' game. Those are the teams that end up beating you if you don't." Coach said it: "She is one of those athletes you thank God you have them. She has unbelievable talent." – Dan Sedgwick. Did you know?
