Track NewsState track and field: Boys 4x100 relay preview12:49 PM CDT on Friday, May 9, 2008Rowlett's Mica El Mumba, Marquise Goodwin, Nick Smith and Kyle Clemons ran the nation's fastest 4x100 relay time (40.72) in the preliminaries of the 5A Region II meet. The group's final time was 41.07, which resulted in a No. 3 seed. But right behind Rowlett in the national rankings are Fort Bend Hightower (40.99) and Lewisville (41.01). Hightower posted its time, which captured the No. 1 seed, at the 5A Region III meet. Lewisville's time came in Region I. Waxahachie, seeded third in 4A (41.73), became a major player in the sprint relays in April after the addition of sophomore Sam Gagliano to the relay team. The glue of the relay, according to coach Willie Rash, is James Fowler, who moved back into the district from Corsicana for his senior year. But Kimball gave Waxahachie a run for its money at the 4A Region II meet, finishing just .02 seconds behind the champions.
