Volleyball NewsVolleyball playoff roundup: Bishop Lynch wins TAPPS 5A girls title12:24 AM CST on Sunday, November 9, 2008Bishop Lynch won its second volleyball title in school history Saturday, defeating San Antonio Incarnate Word, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 24-26, 15-11 in the TAPPS 5A championship match at the Merrell Center in Katy. It was the 27th consecutive victory for Lynch. Middle blocker Jessica Jiles, who has committed to UTA, finished with a team-high 21 kills and six blocks. Coach Tricia Roos said a kill by Jiles in the deciding fifth game turned the momentum in favor of Lynch. Lauren Nevitt led Lynch with 30 digs. Jiles, Michelle Carson, Becky Wallander and LSU commitment Meghan Mannari were named to the TAPPS 5A all-tournament team. Parish Episcopal d. Dallas Christian: Whitney Keith, Kelsey Musselman, Amshatar Stephenson and Abbey Rogge led Parish Episcopal (40-9) to the school's first team state title with a 25-15, 25-8, 20-25, 25-13 win over Dallas Christian in the TAPPS 4A championship. Birdville d. Mansfield Timberview: At Grand Prairie, Birdville's Rachel Parra tipped a ball over the Mansfield Timberview block for match point in a 25-18, 25-19, 27-29, 16-25, 15-13 win in a 4A Region I area-round match. Birdville coach Courtney Grimes said Caitlyn Juarez and Sydni Levy led the offensive attack. Birdville (30-10) meets Arlington Seguin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Grand Prairie in a regional quarterfinal. Rockwall d. Woodrow Wilson: At North Mesquite, outside hitter Stephanie Shaw had nine kills and Kimberly Grinnan added seven as Rockwall had little difficulty in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 sweep over Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson's season ended at 19-19. Rockwall (27-14) will face Richardson Pearce in a 4A-II regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Sachse High School. Amarillo d. Arlington Lamar: At Vernon High School, Amarillo defeated Arlington Lamar, 25-13, 25-23, 25-20 in a 5A-I area-round match. Lamar coach Kate Wood said six service errors in the second game were too much to overcome. Lamar finished its season 28-15. |
