Despite a rash of errors and late-match mistakes, Lovejoy Wimberley, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 15-5, in the Class 3A state semifinals Friday.

Richardson Pearce falls short of Class 4A volleyball title game
Fans clad in Brenham green lingered long afterwards at Strahan Coliseum on Thursday. They spilled onto the court, congratulating the players until gym supervisors began turning off the lights.

State volleyball: Aubrey d. Peaster, 15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 28-26
In practice, Aubrey senior Cadyrose Phillips says, the team finishes every drill properly. They never move on, unless it's perfect.

UIL state volleyball pairings

Richardson Pearce volleyball plays Brenham at state
Richardson Pearce (44-5) will face Brenham (40-6) in the Class 4A UIL state volleyball semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday in San Marcos.

Volleyball: Lovejoy d. Texarkana Pleasant Grove
At Texas A&M-Commerce, Natalie Puckett had 18 kills and six digs and Andie Malloy had 14 assists and seven kills as defending Class 3A state champion Lovejoy (41-7) swept Texarkana Pleasant Grove (36-11) in the Region II final.

Volleyball: Amarillo d. Flower Mound Marcus
In Abilene, Micah Nolan had 17 kills and 11 digs as Amarillo (46-3) continued its quest for a fourth consecutive Class 5A state title by sweeping Flower Mound Marcus (30-16) in the Region I championship match.

Volleyball: Aubrey d. Quitman
At Garland's Special Events Center, senior middle blocker Jac Bullock had 31 kills to help Aubrey (36-9) win the Class 2A Region II final and advance to the state tournament.

Volleyball: Richardson Pearce d. Red Oak
In the huddles, Richardson Pearce players kept saying "make the choice." That was the motto they coined before Saturday's Class 4A Region II final, and they weren't going to throw it out.

Volleyball: Canyon Randall d. Denton Ryan, 25-18 25-15, 25-11
In San Angelo, District 5-4A champion Denton Ryan was swept by Randall in a Class 4A Region I semifinal.

Volleyball: Richardson Pearce d. Waxahachie, 25-10, 25-13, 25-7
Shelby Sullivan had nine kills and three blocks, and Katie O'Brien had seven kills and nine digs to help Richardson Pearce extend its winning streak to 21 matches.

Volleyball: Red Oak d. Frisco Centennial, 25-11, 25-16, 16-25, 25-18
In Garland, Hunter Porter had 20 kills and 12 digs as Red Oak extended its winning streak to 27 matches with a win in a 4A Region II semifinal.

Volleyball: Flower Mound Marcus d. Amarillo Tascosa, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19
In Abilene, senior middle blocker Haley Neisler had 14 kills and 10 blocks to lead Marcus to victory in a Class 5A Region I semifinal.

Volleyball: Amarillo d. Hebron, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21
In Abilene, Hebron led in each set but couldn't get past Amarillo in a 5A Region I semifinal.

Volleyball: Georgetown d. Lake Highlands, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17
In a battle of state-ranked teams, No. 11 Georgetown beat No. 9 Lake Highlands in a Class 5A Region II semifinal in Huntsville.

Volleyball: Hereford d. Mansfield Legacy, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19
Mansfield Legacy was swept by defending Class 4A state champion Hereford in a Region I semifinal in San Angelo.

Volleyball: Lovejoy d. Prosper, 28-26, 25-11, 25-12
At Texas A&M-Commerce, Andie Malloy had 16 kills, 12 assists, eight digs and four blocks, and Natalie Puckett had 14 kills and 12 digs as defending Class 3A state champion Lovejoy beat Prosper in a Region II semifinal.

Volleyball: Texarkana Pleasant Grove def. Argyle, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19
Claire Northam and Tiffany Hunnicutt combined for 23 kills and Sarah Ramsey had 17 assists as Texarkana Pleasant Grove swept Argyle in a Class 3A Region II semifinal.

Volleyball: Aubrey def. Crawford 25-22, 25-19, 25-16
Aubrey got strong serving from Cadyrose Phillips and solid net play by Jac Bullock and Kelly Gattuso in a Class 2A Region II semifinal.

The powerhouse volleyball team at Amarillo High School wins state championships because when playoff pressure piles up, it enjoys the journey without fear.

Area high school athlete signings
Wednesday was the first day for athletes in many sports to sign letters of intent. Football's signing day is Feb. 3, 2010.

Volleyball spotlight: Hannah Rauch, Frisco Centennial, Soph.
In Frisco Centennial's five-game victory against Highland Park on Tuesday, Rauch, an outside hitter, had 27 kills, three aces and 21 digs.

Volleyball: No. 1 Richardson Pearce among playoff winners
Richardson Pearce continued its two-month undefeated streak, beating Frisco Liberty, 25-23, 25-17, 25-18, Tuesday night in a Class 4A Region II quarterfinal match.

Bishop Lynch won the 2008 TAPPS 5A state championship with a dramatic Game 5 victory. This year, the Friars learned what it was like to be on the other side.

Undone by a rash of hitting, serving and passing errors, Parish Episcopal fell short in its bid for back-to-back state championships, losing to Tomball Concordia Lutheran, 25-23, 29-27, 25-21 victory.

TAPPS volleyball playoffs: Richardson Canyon Creek d. Austin Regents, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20
Behind Tumua Etimani's attacking and clutch plays late in each set, Richardson Canyon Creek defended its state title, defeating Austin Regents, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

TAPPS volleyball playoffs: San Antonio Antonian d. Bishop Lynch25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-12
Bishop Lynch won the 2008 TAPPS 5A state championship with a dramatic Game 5 victory. This year, the Friars learned what it was like to be on the other side.

In The Colony, Tiffany Baker had 20 kills and seven blocks, and Olivia Okoro added 10 kills and 10 blocks in Hebron's 5A Region II area-round win.

In West, Marissa Olivares had 15 kills and 11 digs to lead Sachse in the 5A Region II area-round match.

Volleyball: Arlington Lamar def. El Paso Franklin
In Midland, Ashlyn Dibrell led Arlington Lamar with 11 kills, 12 digs and a block in a closely contested sweep in a 5A Region I area match.

Volleyball: Mansfield Legacy def. Denton Guyer
In Keller, Leslie Jackson had 22 kills, 10 digs and two blocks for Mansfield Legacy in its 4A Region I area-round win.

Volleyball: Highland Park def. Carter
Jenna Gaule had 10 kills to lead Highland Park past Carter in a Class 4A Region II area-round match Friday at Ellis Davis Field House.

Volleyball spotlight: Becky Wallander, Bishop Lynch, Sr.
Wallander, who is among the area's best in kills with an average of 4.16 a game, helped lead her team to the TAPPS 5A state semifinals.

Allen d. Cedar Hill 25-17, 25-20, 25-15
In Coppell, DJ Phee finished with a team-leading nine kills and also added nine digs in a 5A Region I bidistrict match.

Plano West d. Irving MacArthur 25-12, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16
Rachel Bedell had 11 kills, six aces and two blocks, and Dana Galway finished with 13 kills.

Coppell d. Colleyville Heritage, 25-20, 25-21, 26-24
In Grapevine, Taylor Meade led Coppell with eight kills in the 5A Region I bidistrict match.

Flower Mound Marcus d. Justin Northwest 25-17, 25-22, 25-16
In Flower Mound, Marcus was led by Lauren Douglass, Haley Neisler and Sarah Hula. Douglass had 12 kills and four blocks, while Neisler finished with 10 kills and two blocks.

Highland Park d. McKinney North 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23
Highland Park, which finished second in District 10-4A, held on against McKinney North for a 4A Region II bidistrict victory in Plano.

Volleyball playoffs: Southlake Carroll d. Keller Central, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16
After his players finished screaming for joy in the locker room, Southlake Carroll coach Arthur Stanfield told them if they control their side of the net good things will continue to happen. On Tuesday, Carroll swept Keller Central, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16, for a 5A Region I bidistrict victory.

Since a player-coach meeting, the McKinney Boyd Broncos have gone 13-3 in volleyball. They defeated Coppell. They defeated Allen. They finished second in their district. Of course, this turnaround wasn't all about a meeting.
