SUBARU GAME OF THE WEEKClements clashes with Hightower03:25 PM CDT on Friday, October 10, 2008 Video Clements Clashes with Hightower October 10, 2008 FORT BEND- Friday’s Subaru HSGameTime “Game of the Week” heads west, to Fort Bend County for the heated district rivalry game between Clements and Hightower, 7 p.m. at Hall stadium. The Hightower Hurricanes have been riding high on the arm of quarterback A.J. Highsmith, entering this game at 3-0, scoring 35 points or more in their first three games. Clements is coming off a playoff season in which they were eliminated by state champion Katy Tigers in the Regional playoffs, and is trying to find their new team identity after losing the majority of their starters. A.J. Highsmith led the Hurricanes deep in the playoffs last year as a junior, and in his senior year his eyes are on a state title. Highsmith has five touchdowns on his 421 yards passing. Highsmith’s top two targets, London Hamilton and Jermane Longino, both have over 100 yards and 20 receptions. Hamilton leads the Hurricanes in receiving with 197 yards and four TD’s on 27 catches, while Longino has 102 yards on 21 catches with no touchdowns so far.
hsgt The Hurricane ground attack has big play written all over it, with three homerun threats out of the backfield. Lydell Williams, Darius Johnson and Bryce Edwards average more the 18 yards per carry. Lydell Williams lead Hurricane rushers with 160 yards and three TD’s on seven carries; that’s a 23 yard average per carry. Darius Johnson has 116 yards and one TD on six carries, averaging 19 yards per carry. Bryce Edwards is a the third option with 83 yards and one TD on only 4 carries giving him a 21 yard average. Watch for Edwards to be a “sleeper stand out” in this game, with stats like his look for him to make some big plays.
