HOUSTON- The Katy Tigers are still alive in the playoffs, with another state title just two wins away. Tiger running back, Will Jeffery, shined Saturday at Rice Stadium, grabbing “Athlete of the Week” honors with his winning performance over La Porte. Jeffery scorched the Bulldog defense for 171 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries.

The Tigers’ offense wore down the La Porte defense with the bruising running of Michael Webber, who scored Katy’s first rushing touchdown, which made way for Jeffery to take over.

Jeffery scored his first TD from 6 yards out, finding plenty of running room off the left side, with 2:40 left in the first, giving Katy the 14-0 lead.

Will Jeffery would strike back three times in the third quarter, completely sealing the game for Katy.

Jeffery struck “pay dirt” from 32 yards out, followed up about 7 minutes later with a 47 yard touchdown run.

Jeffery would get his fourth and final TD with 2 seconds left in the third quarter making the score 35-0 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The strong offensive line play opened up gapping wholes for both backs to run through, but that extra pop of speed that Jeffery provides helped him go the distance.

Katy gears up to face Smithson Valley on Saturday in the State Semi-Finals at Rice Stadium, kickoff at 2 p.m.
