TOP STORIESBASKETBALL: Dickinson and Cy Fair fight their way into tournament08:48 PM CST on Saturday, February 23, 2008Cy Fair Bobcats women basketball team is all smiles Saturday after knocking off the Cinco Ranch Lady cougars 49-41 in the 5A finals, advancing them on into the state tournament. Nneka Ogwumike was a serious presence on both ends of the court leading the charge for the Bobcats with 23 points and 12 rebounds giving Cy Fair the spark they needed. Cy Fair held tight to a close lead all game, and when Cinco Ranch’s perimeter shooting was off target, it allowed Cy Fairs’ oversized line up to grab rebounds and score points on the transition game. Cinco’s Brianna Gilbreath and Kelsey Clinch finished the game with 11 points each coming in tied as lead scorer for their team. Cy Fair will be traveling to Austin to represent the Houston area in the state tournament.
In the 4A finals, the Gators of Dickinson chomped down hard on the Yates Lions defeating them 76-36 Saturday at the Berry Center. Morgan Williams and Marissa Ashton tied for the team lead with 13 points each giving the Gators a commanding lead. The Gators held control of the game since the opening tip and never looked back running all over Yates. Dickinson will be heading to Austin next week to face off in the state tournament. |
