TOP STORIESHolly Vonderau leaps over obstacles05:26 PM CDT on Thursday, April 3, 2008As a sophomore Holly set the school record triple jump record at the Lufkin district meet last year placing first, jumping 37’3 1/2. Holly Vonderau has lettered in varsity track since her freshman year at Magnolia high. This year Holly missed the first 9 weeks of track due to an immune blood disorder, and only with doctor’s permission has Holly slowly returned to minimal workouts with her coaches. Although Holly has not returned to last year’s record setting form, she has shown that her skill has not left her. She proved that while fighting adversity, she still displayed her skills in her last three meets.

This Friday, April 4th, Magnolia is hosting the district meet, where Holly is ready to defend and add to her last year district winning school record of 37’ 3 ½”. Magnolia currently competes in district 15-5A, which is full of large powerhouse schools like Lufkin, The Woodlands, and College Park. Next year Magnolia will be dropping down to 4A, where they will be at the top of the district. Holly Vonderau is the definition of an all around student athlete, who studies, competes and cheers at a very high level. She is an A student and has also been a stand out on the Woodlands Elite Cheer squad for 11 years. Holly is determined to succeed at all she does, and has over come some great adversity in her life, losing her mother to cancer 11 years ago. Adversity only makes her work harder, and with this only being her junior year, Holly Vonderau is definitely someone to watch out for this year, and especially next year for her senior year. |
