West Side wins over Cy Fair in a pitchers duel

It was a pitchers duel Thursday night, until one slip up by Cy Fair’s pitcher cost the Bobcats the first game of a three game series verse West Side. Daniel Mengden’s Walk-Off Homer in the seventh inning gave West Side a 1-0 victory over Cy Fair in the second round of the state baseball playoffs.
Playoffs bring out the best in everyone and pitchers are under the gun to perform, and these two pitchers did not disappoint. Austin Coble of Cy Fair and Taylor Wall of West Side were on fire from the mound going nearly seven innings of scoreless ball, and giving up a combined five hits. Wall got the win for West Side, pitching seven innings, only allowing one hit and striking out nine batters along the way. Cy Fair’s Austin Coble, was awarded the loss, pitching seven innings striking out six batters and giving up only four hits; the fourth being a walk off homerun.

West Side takes the one game lead in the series with the next game being a must win for Cy Fair.
In other playoff action, Memorial won a close one over Cy Creek to take the series lead. De’Mario Thibodeaux hit a two-run bomb to give Memorial a good lead they held on to with solid pitching performances in their 5-3 win.

Micheal Bence threw 101 pitches in five innings striking out three batters, before yielding to relief pitcher Steven Murray, who closed out the game for Memorial.
Cy Creek’s Brad Orosey threw 121 pitches in seven innings giving up 10 hits, striking out eight batters.
Memorial takes a one game lead in the series and plays tomorrow at Cy Creek.
