TOP STORIESBASEBALL: Second round action finishes up, sealing the fate for many09:02 PM CDT on Saturday, May 10, 2008The second round of playoffs finished up today, seeing some great baseball action all over the area, and deciding the fate for every team. Lamar and Langham Creek lit up the scoreboard with the ‘ Long-ball’ Friday night in the second game of their three game series. Rice commit, Anthony Renden launched three homers against Langham Creek to help lead Lamar to a 22-21 thriller to close out the Lobos, in a game that saw nine homers in total.
HSGT Renden got started early launching his first two in back to back at bats in the first and second inning. The Lobos tried a different approach after that and decided to give him first base in his next three at bats, getting hit by a pitch in the next at bat, and walked twice. Peter Goudeau, who bats behind Renden, made the Lobos pay for pitching around Lamar’s homerun king, by launching two ‘dingers’ of his own, one of which was a grand slam. Lamar’s pitchers Scott Erzinger and Tyler Duffie each hit a homerun of their own, showing that they can do more than just throw a ball.
hsgt Langham Creek had two homeruns of their own, coming off the bat of Casey Tompkins and Austin Freitas. Langham Creek battled back to take the game into extra innings, but were not strong enough to overtake Lamar, who swept the Lobos with the win. Lamar will face their rival Bellaire in the next round of the playoffs. Cy Creek and Memorial took the field Saturday for the final and deciding game, in their three game playoff series, and neither team wanted to end their title dreams early. Memorial’s bats got hot early, putting up four runs in the first inning, pacing their way to a 14-4 victory.
HSGT Baron Davis of Memorial got the win today, throwing 74 pitches, striking out four batters and giving up only four hits in five innings. Davis received some strong backing by the offense, compliments of MP Cokinos, Michael Rattery and De’Mario Thibodeaux who hit all hit homeruns to help the Mustangs’ cause. The Mustangs move to the third round of the state playoffs, where they will face the winner of the Westside Cy Fair game. Bellaire beat down Katy in game three of their second round playoff series Saturday at Katy. Bellaire had lost the first game 2-0, but bounced back taking the next two games 7-6 and finishing off Katy with a 12-4 victory.
HSGT Tyler Boardman, FRESHMAN pitcher for Bellaire came away with a solid win, pitching a complete game allowing seven hits, struck out six batters and allowed four runs in their game three win that moves them on to the next round where they will face Lamar. The Bellaire vs. Lamar rivalry is a HUGE, one for the ages; besides being district rivals, they split the series during the regular season, each winning one. The Klein Bearkats have been on the top of every rankings list in the state, and have proven all season that they are a true force to be reckoned with.
HSGT In the deciding game of their second round playoff series, the Bearkats trailed Belton most the game, until Jason Moan put Klein on his back. Moan blasted two homeruns, giving Klein the come from behind win that pushes them deeper into the playoff hunt.

The Klein Collins Tigers have fallen out of the playoffs with their 8-7 loss against Georgetown. Klein Collins was leading most of the game 6-3, but Georgetown battled back to take the win and advance to the next round of the playoffs where they will face the Klein Bearkats, who just finished up their series beating Belton in three games.
