Britni Wells’ single with the bases loaded acted as a walk off, knocking in Vanessa Eng from third to win the game 1-0 in nine innings.
HSGT Senior shortstop Alexis Joseph is all smiles knowing that her Jackets are state bound. Brazoswood walked Kelsi Kettler to load the bases, hoping to turn an easy double play, but it backfired when Wells punched one over second, landing fair to score the game winning run. Amber Anderson pitched her second game in a row, going nine innings of shut out baseball, to get the win. Anderson has been lights out all playoffs, finding ways to escape from tight situations.
HSGT Alvin Jackets burst through their "STATE '08" banner after beating Brazoswood. The second that Vanessa Eng put one foot on home plate, the helmets were off and the celebrations began. The fans charged the field to celebrate along with the girls, who are now Austin bound. The state tournament will be May 29th – 31st at McCombs Field in Austin.
THURSDAY- Thursday night’s High Lights The Alvin Yellow Jackets stung the Lady Bucs of Brazoswood Thursday night at Manvel, in game one of the regional finals. Megan Knippa’s three-run triple in the seventh inning provided the Jackets with more run protection in their 7-1 victory over Brazoswood. At the following at bat, Jessica Savage knocked in Knippa on a sacerfice fly to give the Jackets their seventh and final run.
HSGT Alvin started out the game swinging the bat well, scoring three runs in the first inning to give their pitcher a good lead to work with. Jackets’ senior pitcher Amber Anderson got the win for Alvin, throwing a complete game allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 Bucs’ batters. Anderson escaped countless close calls with her outstanding pitching, and defensive support, forcing Brazoswood to strand runners on base.
HSGT With Alvins’ game one victory, it makes game two a must win for Brazoswood. Game two will be Friday at Manvel high school at 7 p.m. |
