TOP STORIESBaseball: West Side sweeps Sterling07:11 PM CDT on Saturday, May 24, 2008West Side moves on to the regional finals with their series sweep of Baytown Ross Sterling. West Side’s defensive play has been outstanding all series, especially their dominating pitchers.
HSGT West Side's Taylor Wall has dominated the playoffs so far and has his eyes on state. Taylor Wall proved to be an impermeable wall in game one, no hitting the Rangers in seven innings striking out 13 batters throwing 102 pitches. Wall also helped out on the offensive side knocking in two RBI’s in their 7-0 victory. Sterling had their backs against the wall coming into game two, knowing they were going to face Michael Goodnight, another one of West Side’s great pitchers and needed a win to keep their state dreams alive. These two teams went back and forth while Marshall and Goodnight dueled.
HSGT Westside and Sterling were tied 5-5 when Cory Maltz knocked in the winning run to send West Side to their first regional finals. West Side will face the winner of the Bellaire and Alvin series. |
