TOP STORIESBASEBALL: West Side wins game one, Lamar Consolidated forces game three10:30 PM CDT on Friday, May 30, 2008 The West Side Wolves took beat out Bellaire Friday night at Ray Knoblauch field, in game one of the regional finals. Matt Clayton’s sacrifice bunt in the third inning scored what would prove to be the winning run in West Side’s 3-2 victory over the cardinals. Taylor Wall came into this game with high expectations, after throwing a no hitter last series against Memorial. Wall gave up his first hit in 12 innings to Jeremy Schaeffer in sixth inning. Wall pitched a complete game, giving up two hits and striking out eight batters, allowing only one earned run.
HSGT Michael Goodnight leads off from second to score the first of three runs against Bellaire. West Side’s offense started out on top scoring three quick runs; an RBI single to right by Michael Falcone, RBI single by Daniel Mengden, and a sac bunt by Matt Clayton. Bellaire tried to make a late inning come back off a two run double by Kyle Chaskins in the sixth. Bellaire had the bases loaded and West Side’s back against the wall, but came up empty handed. West Side Taylor Wall pitched his way out of a jam getting the third out. Tomorrow’s game two will be at Ray Knoblauch field at 1 p.m. You can LISTEN LIVE on TSRN.
The 4A regional finals started Thursday night at Cougar Stadium in a battle of the Mustangs, Friendswood and Lamar Consolidated. Friendswood took game one over Lamar Consolidated, and Friday night’s game two is a must win for Lamar Consolidated; and that’s exactly what they did. Lamar Consolidated trampled Friendswood jumping on them early and not letting up in their 8-1 game two win. Game three will be at Houston Cougar Stadium Saturday at 2 p.m. and can be heard LIVE on TSRN. |
