TOP STORIESBASEBALL: Bellaire set for semifinal game07:41 PM CDT on Friday, June 6, 2008The Bellaire Cardinals have fought their way into the state tournament; bouncing back from everything thrown their way. The Cardinals will test their title hopes in the semifinals against the Dragons of Southlake Carroll. The game starts at 7 p.m. and will be played at Dell Diamond Field. Bellaire placed third in their district, and went on to knock out both teams who had placed ahead of the, Lamar and West Side. Bellaire is coming into this game with a 39-8 record while the opposing Dragons enter with a 22-18 record. Bellaire’s strength and depth at pitching has been a key factor in their playoff success so far. After losing game one of the regional finals against West Side, the Cardinals came back to take the next two games, shutting out West Side in both outings. If the Cardinal pitchers can continue to manage the game to their liking, the bats of McCaleb, Schaeffer, and Chaskin will do the rest.
