TOP STORIESBASEBALL: Summer select baseball Heats up in Houston01:16 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 2, 2008With the temperatures of summer rising, the last thought on most people’s mind is running around outside; unless your playing with the Houston Heat. Summer select baseball is in full swing and the Houston Heat is one of the many opportunities for high school players to continue playing baseball, after their high school season ends. The Houston Heat Black team and the KC White team squared off last night at Baseball USA with some hard-hitting action. Both teams had solid pitching performances, but some errors in the seventh inning allowed the Heat to jump ahead of the KC White coasting to a 5-4 win. A late ninth inning homerun by Tyler Green brought the KC White with in one run, but it was not enough to overcome the Heat. The Heat’s “flamethrowers” off the mound included two Memorial pitchers, Matt Reckling and Michael Bens, and North East Christian pitcher Kevin Allen, who got the job done dividing the workload. “For a summer league team, we have gotten off to a great start so far at 19-4, maybe the best start I’ve ever had” said Heat Coach Vinny Sinisi
The Heat played their game with wooden bats, so that they would be ready for the July 8th National wooden bat championship, in Atlanta Georgia. This is a nation wide tournament that has a 25 team waiting list, so the Heat feel pretty lucky to be in it.
