TOP STORIESConroe ISD celebrates new stadium and natatorium04:40 PM CDT on Thursday, July 10, 2008 The Woodlands- For the longest time, teams from the Woodlands and Oak Ridge had to drive north to Conroe for a “home game,” but that is no longer the case with their newest addition. Woodforest National Bank stadium and natatorium is the newest addition for Conroe ISD athletics, and will be home for football, soccer, swimming, diving and water polo. This state of the art sports complex sits on 60 acres and has over 3,400 parking spots surrounding it. The projected completion date is anywhere between August 1st and 14th, with August 28th being opening night for football. The football stadium is an impressive sight, seating over 10,000 people with a multi-level press box on the home side. The field itself is artificial field turf, just like that of most pro stadiums. The field house has matching locker rooms for home and away teams with field level entries on one side and a large Daktronics digital score board on the other
HSGT While the football stadium is quite impressive, the natatorium checks in as one of the premier aquatics facilities for both high school and college in the state, only behind that of UT and A&M. The natatorium will be the host site for the 4A and 5A regional tournament for swimming and diving. The pool is a “50 meter stretch” which is actually 60 meters long by 25 yards wide, and contains 925 gallons of water, equaling nine million pounds of water. The natatorium seats 1,100 fans in the grandstands, and has deck room for 900 more athletes and fans. The pool has movable bulkheads, allowing the pool to be sectioned off for water polo, and diving. As far as the diving well goes, it has four 1-meter springboards, two 3-meter springboards, one 3-meter diving platform, and two on deck hot tubs for waiting divers. The pool’s first event is the start of the Woodlands High School water polo tournament, that starts August 29th and will take place over two days. Fans and athletes alike have waited a sports complex like this for the longest time, and now that its here, CISD plans to take full advantage of their new facilities. |
