Hightower quarterback AJ Highsmith took control early scoring at will against Clements, leading the Hurricanes to a 40-7 victory. AJ Highsmith was awarded player of the game, finishing with 201 total yards and four touchdowns. Highsmith scored on the Hurricanes’ first drive connecting with Stephen Gardner on a four yard TD pass. Highsmith who is known as a primarily passing quarterback showed he could do it by foot as well, running in a touchdown from six yards out. “It was originally a passing play, but Clements defended it so well, I didn’t want to force anything,” said Highsmith when he described his rushing touchdown. Highsmith would get his next two touchdowns from the same wide out, Darius Johnson. Johnson is one of Highsmith’s favorite targets, and he showed it connecting on a 63 yard TD and again on a 13 yard TD, putting the game out of reach.
hsgt Hightower started running the ball late in the game, trying to speed up the clock, and it worked, with two separate running backs scoring TD’s. Jermane Longino scored on a one yard plunge at the end of the third and London Hamilton added his 33 yard TD run in the fourth quarter. High lights for Clements were their 18 yard touchdown pass from Austin Decell to David Oppman. Hightower’s next opponent is Fort Bend Bush, who they play next week.
