The Stratford Spartans spiked Magnolia at home Wednesday in an absolute dogfight. Jennifer Jordan and Mary Ellen Luck led the way for the Spartans leading in kills; Jordan had 22 and Luck had 13.

The Spartans took the first game 25-23, dropped the second game 18-25, but battled back to win the next two 25-19 and 25-21. The Spartans found themselves trailing through out the game and had to battle back to get their wins.

Although the Bulldogs lost, they made Stratford work hard for their win, taking every game to the end. A highlight for Magnolia was the standout performance of Kelly Stewart. Stewart led the Bulldogs with 17 kills, and showed off why she is one of the top players in the area. Stewart plays an above the net style game with a hard spike and jump serve that actually knocked one girl over.

Magnolia transitioned to 4A this season, but continues to play 5A schools, for higher levels of competition and Magnolia still plays them tough.
