Friday Night Shaun Umeh scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and Fort Bend Dulles withstood a furious rally by Klein Forest to pull out a 71-66 win in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Dulles will play for the 5A championship Saturday night. Klein Forest had trailed by 19 in the third quarter and fought all the way back to tied it at 56-56 with about four minutes to play. That started a furious sprint to the finish as the teams traded 3-pointers and fast break layups until Dulles finally pulled away in the final 30 seconds. Umeh's consecutive layups twice broke late ties and the second came on a nifty reverse that gave Dulles the lead for good at 63-61. Adrian Kuyinu gave Dulles a 66-61 cushion when he finished a 3-point play. Dre Harrison scored 17 points and twin guards Abel and Thomas Galliguez connected on six 3-pointers for Dulles (34-4). Elliott Lloyd scored 16 points to lead Klein Forest (33-4), which was down 49-30 midway through the third quarter. |
