KREM.com 2B BOYS Chris Pynch scored seven of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to lift Riverside Christian to a 55-49 victory over Lind-Ritzville in the state Class 2B boys tournament on Thursday. Jered Cates led Riverside Christian with 19 points, as RC improved to 22-0. The Crusaders outscored the Broncos 17-8 at the free-throw line. Jamie Stevenson led Lind-Ritzville with 20 points, scoring 16 in the first half, before getting shut down in the second half. The Broncos, now 17-5, will play in a loser-out game on Friday. 2B GIRLS SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Courtney May scored 24 points and Napavine pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 48-36 win over Liberty Bell in the quarterfinals of the Class 2B girls tournament on Thursday night. Laina Potter added nine points as Napavine improved to 21-1 and advanced to the semifinals. Korrie Bourn scored nine points for Liberty Bell, which dropped to 19-3. The Lady Lions overcame a rough shooting first half (4 of 27) to pull within 31-26 after three quarters, before Napavine pulled away in the fourth. 1A BOYS YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) -- Gerald Hill scored 18 of his game-high 25 points in the second half and Charles Wright rallied to beat Granger 51-43 in the Class 1A boys state tournament quarterfinals Thursday. Hill made 9 of 20 shots, including a pair of 3-pointers, as CW (20-6) took control of a tight contest with a 21-9 scoring run in the fourth quarter. Patrick Philley added 11 points, and Jorden Hand pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for Charles Wright. The Spartans (15-11) led 26-18 at halftime, but their shooting touch turned cold in the second half. Granger made 48 percent (10 of 21) of its shots in the first half, but just 28 percent (7 of 25) after intermission. Charles Wright shot 48 percent in the second half. Mychal Lopez led Granger with 16 points, and Benjamin Villa chipped in 10. 1A GIRLS YAKIMA, WA. -- Alex Daggy scored 12 points and led three Lakeside players in double figures, and the Eagles beat Connell 45-35 in a Class 1A girls state quarterfinal game Thursday night. Lexie Zappone added 11 points and Leslie Stillar had 10 points for Lakeside (17-11), which advances to Friday's semifinal against Lynden Christian. Lakeside took control of the game with a 14-2 run in the second quarter. Daggy collected a game-high 12 rebounds as Lakeside outrebounded Connell 40-35. Julie Hawkins led Connell with eight points. 4A BOYS TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Jared Karstetter scored 18 points, Erick Cheadle added 17 and DeAngelo Casto had another great defensive game as Ferris beat Edmonds-Woodway 59-47 Thursday in a quarterfinal game at the Class 4A boys tournament. It was the 56th straight win for the Saxons (27-0), who are looking to defend their state title. Casto, a 6-foot-8 senior, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots. He has 13 blocks through two days. He also scored nine points. Karstetter was 5 of 9 from the field and Cheadle hit four 3-pointers for the Saxons. Ferris never trailed and outscored Edmonds-Woodway 22-4 at the free-throw line. The Warriors (21-5) were led by the 14 points and nine rebounds of Connor Donaldson. Sean Laue chipped in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. 4A GIRLS TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Freshman Jordan Loera scored 25 points, junior Carly Noyes grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots, and Moses Lake beat Kentwood 63-52 in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A girls tournament on Thursday night. Loera led the upstart Chiefs (23-5), who are making their first-ever trip to state. Loera was 7-for-12 from the field and hit all eight of her free throws. She also had four assists, two steals and three 3-pointers. Noles, a 6-foot-5 force on defense, also scored 11 points for Moses Lake. The Conquerors (22-5) trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half. They rallied to get to within 54-50 with less than two minutes left, but got no closer. Lindsey Moore scored 20 points to go with six assists and three steals for Kentwood. |
