TOP STORIESBig Kick-off Returns not enough for Rogers H.S.04:37 PM PDT on Tuesday, September 18, 2007Click links below for more details
Cody Peterson's performance Friday night looked like a Devin Hester highlight clip. But even his monstrous kick-off return for a touchdown couldn't keep Rogers from losing.
After a big first quarter, Rogers Senior QB Andrew Durant showed his solid arm almost too much, overthrowing some receivers. He completed some nice passes but had trouble throughout the game converting third down passes. The ShadlePark offense incorporated some Wing-T elements that proved to be too much for the Pirates defense. The misdirection running plays had the Rogers defense spinning, and they found themselves being pushed down the field. Shadle Seniors QB Ian Carlson and RB Andrew McCanna (finished with 185 yards rushing) led an impressive 70-yard drive down the field to start the third, but could not finish as they were held to a field goal. The Highlanders also had a strong all-around defensive performance. Nick Shenefelt and Evan Little were two that stood out. After giving up a 4th and goal touchdown to go down 29-21, the Rogers special teams came up big with an extra point block, keeping it to a one-possession game. The Pirates final drive wasnt pretty as they were saved by two pass-interference calls to keep the ball moving. The drive ended with a tipped interception by Shadles DB Zack Humphrey. One player worth noticing is the Highlanders Wyatt Evenson. He had a big game kicking three field goals and tipping an interception to his teammate (Humphrey) that ended the game. Look for Shadle to be a deeper field goal threat this season with his leg. |
