TOP STORIESWrestling stars head to Tacoma10:54 PM PST on Friday, February 15, 2008The 20th Mat Classic at the TacomaDome will feature over 1,000 wrestlers who will take over 2,100 bouts to determine state championships. The east side of the state willl be well represented, with several schools and individuals in the hunt to win state titles. In 4A, Central Valley has a legitimate chance to win the team title. U-High should also be somewhere in the mix. In 3A, East Valley advanced 10 to state and is in position to bring home a trophy.
HSGameTime.com IN 2A, Deer Park took 10 wrestlers to the west side as well, 5 who placed last year. Look for the Stags near the top after a second place finish last year. GNL rival Riverside qualified 8 and hopes to finish in the top 4 for the first time since 1977. IN 1A,Lakeside has a shot to win a team title after earning a 3rd place trophy last year. IN B, Republic and Reardan return multiple state placers from last year and will be in the mix.
Individually, there should be a load of medals for local wrestlers. Just a few of many to watch. U-High's Brian Owen at 130 pounds and CV's Logan Bowman. Clete Hanson from EV has been in the title hunt for a couple of years. Riverside's Ryan DesRoches is a 2-time state champ. His brother Jake also hopes to compete at 152 pounds, but Deer Park's Cody Miller will be tough to beat. Lakeside has 6 top 3 placers from last year returning. Republic returns 3 state champs and 4 placers from last year, while Reardan has state champ Derek Toney and 4 other medalists. |
