Top Stories NewsQuick start carries PolyRIVERSIDE POLY 13 CHAPARRAL 3 The Bears score 8 runs in the first two innings.10:00 PM PDT on Friday, May 22, 2009RIVERSIDE - Seniors Jake Marisnick and Blair Moore each had three hits and scored three times to lead Riverside Poly, which pounded Temecula Chaparral pitching for 14 hits en route to a 13-3 victory on Friday in a Division 1 first-round baseball playoff game. The first four batters scored for the Bears (18-10-1), who scored four times in the first inning, four more in the second and two in the third to build a 10-0 lead. "We swing it pretty good. That's one of our strengths," head coach Aaron Moore said. "When you score four in the first and four in the second it pretty much sets the tone." The University of Oregon-bound Marisnick singled in the first, doubled in the second and singled again in the fifth. He drove in three runs. "We came in here knowing we'd be the team to beat ... with our sticks and our pitching. We have pretty good confidence," Marisnick said. The San Diego State-bound Moore singled in the first, homered in the third and singled again in the fifth. "The fast start was big. It really helped us out a lot," said Moore, who leads the Bears with six home runs this season. Junior Austin Haner went 2 for 4 with three RBI and freshman R.J. Ybarra went 2 for 3 with three RBI for Poly, which added three more runs in the fifth behind run-scoring singles from Haner and Ybarra. Junior left-hander Dylan Stuart (4-2) allowed two hits and walked one in five scoreless to earn the victory. He struck out three. "(Stuart) got ahead with his breaking ball and the changeup. He had great command of the plate," Aaron Moore said. Stuart faced 17 batters and got 15 outs. Senior Jake Rogers provided the lone bright spot for the Pumas (16-11) with a three-run home run in the sixth. The Bears play at San Juan Capistrano JSerra, which defeated Adolfo Camarillo 3-2, in a second-round game on Tuesday. |
