Top Stories NewsCollins, Norton spark VikingsMORENO VALLEY 50, LA SIERRA 1410:00 PM PST on Friday, November 14, 2008RIVERSIDE - Seniors Don'ziel Collins and Jonathan Norton combined for 367 rushing yards and six touchdowns in leading Moreno Valley to a 50-14 victory Friday night over Riverside La Sierra at Alvord District Stadium. Collins scored four times on just five carries for the Vikings (7-3, 6-1), who wrapped up second place in the Inland Valley League and a home game in the first round of next week's CIF playoffs. He scored on runs on 45, 47, 32 and 59 yards for 183 total. Norton, the IVL's leading rusher coming into the game, ran for 184 yards to finish the season with 1,224. His 12 touchdowns also led the league. "We knew we'd be able to run on them; beat them up inside and do some things with our speed," Moreno Valley head coach Ted Watkins said. "We just had more team-speed than they did, plain and simple." The Vikings led 20-0 in the first quarter behind two scores from Collins and a 30-yard fumble return by senior Carl Spotvile. Collins tacked on another touchdown in the second quarter before La Sierra finally got on the scoreboard with a 1-yard TD run by senior Henry Morales. Morales added another touchdown late in the fourth quarter and finished with 65 yards on 10 carries. Senior Jerry Parker ran for 110 yards on 28 carries in his last game for the Eagles (6-4, 3-4). He finished the season with team-high 1,149 yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior Ukponi Udi added 80 yards on 19 carries for La Sierra. |
