11/07/2009VICTORY IS TAYLOR MADE Eleven sets of eyes peered into Norco's backfield. For a brief second, the defenders lost sight of Taylor Viloria.
Viloria made the correct read on the option and dived into the end zone to score the deciding two-point conversion with 27 seconds remaining as Norco defeated Corona Centennial, 29-28, in a Big VIII League game Friday night.

Maybe the unemployment rate there will balloon over the next year. Maybe the weather will be completely miserable.
Whatever.
Friday night, Beaumont beat Banning. Any good from this point on is just bonus.
"This is as good as it gets," said Beaumont coach Paul Lopez.Going against grain Thomas Nieto grabbed what looked like a twig from the hands of a Moreno Valley Valley View assistant coach and lofted it high above his head in victory.
After his team's 14-12 victory over Moreno Valley on Friday, in which Valley View held Moreno Valley to 189 yards of offense, Nieto, a linebacker, cited the work of his defense. But he asked not to forget about the twig.

Humble star Ask anyone connected to Banning High athletics about star football player Derron Smith and they'll tell you what a humble -- even shy -- person he is.
"He's very modest," Broncos coach John Stockham said. "He knows he has a great future, but he's not a braggart. He's down to earth."Cooper puts area on alert Fours years ago, there was "Toby Watch," as Norco's Toby Gerhart chased several respected rushing records, including the state's all-time career yardage mark.

The nice thing about this game was that, if you happened to be running late, you didn't have to worry about parking.
Sometimes the lot at a high school football game can make you feel as confined as a puppy in a pound. Here? You'd be more like a wolf out in the wilderness.Schexnayder scores 4 TDs in North win The annual matchup between Riverside North and Riverside Poly may have lost its luster this season but certainly not its fervor.
While it is still possible for each to qualify for the playoffs, North and Poly both played Friday hoping to avoid last place in the uber-competitive Big VIII League.REV's offense blitzes Carter Redlands East Valley senior A.J. Fernandez continually burst out from behind the bright red-jerseyed blockers David Peterson, Brandon Greene, Matt Zwolinski, Zach Martinez and Ed Faimalo for big plays in a 41-14 victory over Rialto Carter on Friday night.
Fernandez, who had 183 yards and scored three touchdowns, seemed as if he were 5 or 6 yards up the field before any Lions defenders laid a hand on him.
The Titans kept Banning's Derron Smith contained all night and escaped with a 14-7 victory on Friday night. It was the third win in a row for Notre Dame after dropping its first two Mountain Pass League contests.

Kaiser scores key win over Summit, 13-7 While it may still be presumptuous to crown the Fontana Kaiser football team with its ninth consecutive Sunkist League title, its 13-7 win over Fontana Summit on Thursday may soon prove to be the decisive win.

10/29/2009Cornerstone commitment Let's assume Coach Monte Jones didn't think there was any real chance he'd be dressing up as Pippy Longstocking at one of his team's weekly "Wacky Wednesday" practices.
He will be, though, if his Cornerstone Christian eight-man football team wins one more game and brings its season total to a pretty-darn-sensational four.
Collision Course San Bernardino Cajon football coach Kim Battin is second to none when it comes to down-playing his team's chances and pumping up an opponent.
He's the Inland area's present-day version of John Ralston, the former Stanford University and Denver Broncos coach who poor-mouthed his teams to Rose Bowl titles and NFL victories.Summit uses a three-headed monster It's a little unconventional, but Fontana Summit alternates quarterbacks Josh Owes and Bernard Porter every series and sometimes even throws last year's QB -- sprinter Devon Blackmon -- into the mix.
