1. Mike Peterson, linebacker with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mike played at Santa Fe High School in North Central Florida. I did play-by-play of his team’s games on the radio when I was in college at the University of Florida. He went on to play for the hometown Gators, then go on to the NFL and the Indianapolis Colts. Years later, when I worked in Indy I covered him again, and we joked about how he played quarterback in high school, but none of his Colts teammates believed him. His younger brother Adrian Peterson (not the one playing now for the Vikings) was on that Santa Fe team too, and would eventually star at Georgia Southern and get drafted by the Chicago Bears. 2. Cedrick Wilson, WR with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I covered Cedrick when he played for the Tennessee All-Stars. He was out of Memphis Melrose high school and played QB. He went on to star at the University of Tennessee, and then made it in the NFL with the 49’ers and then the Pittsburgh Steelers. He recently was released by Pittsburgh after some legal troubles. 3. John Henderson, DT with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also was a Tennessee all-star out of Nashville, and was a monster on the field. This guy had NFL written all over him even in high school. 4. Jason Witten, TE with the Dallas Cowboys. When I saw this guy as a high school player at Elizabethtown (Tennessee), he literally stood above the rest. He was a giant compared to the other players. He went on to play at Tennessee and is now a star making millions with the Dallas Cowboys. Let me know some of the future stars you got to see when they were high school players.
