The 7-foot Zeller led the state in scoring last season and was selected the top player in Indiana for 2008 in the annual voting conducted by The Indianapolis Star. Zeller averaged 33 points a game for the season and scored a record 43 points in the 84-60 win over Fort Wayne Harding for the championship. The North Carolina recruit was named on 257 of the 345 ballots cast by media and coaches from across the state. Plymouth’s Randy Davis was a distant second with 22 votes and no one else received more than nine. Zeller’s older brother, Luke, was the 2005 Mr. Basketball after also leading Washington to the 3A championship. The Zellers are the third set of brothers to win Mr. Basketball: Twins Tom and Dick VanArsdale of Indianapolis Manual shared the award in 1961, and Billy and David Shepherd of Carmel won in 1968 and 1970, respectively.
