Marty Donlon, Saint Xavier Head Golf Coach for the past 45 years, has announced his retirement effective June 1, 2008. A member of the Social Studies faculty, Marty has served the students at St. X for the past 45 years as a teacher or guidance counselor. During his tenure as the golf coach, Marty led the Tigers to an incredible 18 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Championships and 9 State Runner-up finishes, along with 24 Regional titles. He has been named National Coach of the Year three times and was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996. In addition to the NHSACA Hall of Fame, he is a member of the Bellarmine University Hall of Fame (1986), the St. X Alumni Hall of Honors (1992), the Metro Area Athletic Directors Hall of Fame (2002), and the Dawahares/ KHSAA Hall of Fame (2004). Marty is the founder and director of the Kentucky High School Golf All-State program and has served as the KHSAA Regional Tournament Director for 44 years. He has also served in various capacities as a high school basketball coach for over forty years.
