TOP STORIESCentral wins state championship09:39 PM EST on Friday, December 7, 2007Central wins the Kentucky class 3-A state title game Friday against (14-1) Belfry. This is their first KHSAA state title in school history. With 1:39 left in the first quarter, Darrell Taylor scored on a 48 yard run putting the yellow Jackets up 7-0. Belfry answered back with a one yard touchdown run from full back Dustin May. They seemed to be rolling after that, because less than 2 minutes later they scored a 28 yard field goal giving making the score 7-10. With no time left in the first half, Taylor returned a 76 yard interception giving the Jackets a 14-10 half time lead. Taylor said “The boat started rockin’, but we stayed on the ship. This was a team effort.” The second half was all Central. Quarterback Leland Banks hit Stephon Robinson with a 26 yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter giving them a 21-10 lead. The Pirates made a push early in the fourth quarter, but Central was too tough to handle. They went on to win 27-17. Their defense held Belfry to 282 total yards. Belfry coach Phillip Haywood said “this was the best defensive line we played all year.” Central ended the season (10-5), and four of those five losses were against 5-A or tougher opponents. They played one of the toughest schedules in the state and shied away from no one. Coach Scroggins said “We proved that we can play with anybody, and we can do anything we want to do.” Congratulations to Central and their football team on an outstanding season.
