TOP STORIESGame of the Week: St. X dominates Trinity 30-6 in rivalry game04:40 PM EDT on Saturday, October 4, 2008Saint Xavier dominated the line of scrimmage and got a big rushing night from Duece Finch to take down rival Trinity 30-6 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. A record 38,872 people attended the game, breaking the series record set in 2005.
St. X only led 10-6 at halftime, but capitalized on 3 Trinity turnovers in the 2nd half to blow the game open. Matt Brutscher connected with Steve Goodwin with just over a minute left in the 3rd quarter to push the lead to 16-6. After a Trinity fumble, Brutscher threw another TD pass with 11 minutes left, pushing the lead to 23-6.
Trinity threw an interception on its next drive, and St. X only needed 3 plays to score on a Finch 4-yard run, making the score 30-6.
Finch finished with 20 carries, 152 yards and the one touchdown. Trinity was only able to run the ball for 68 yards on 30 carries. The two teams may meet again in the state 6A playoffs in the semifinals.
St. X leads the overall series 34-30-2. |
